Statement on the Paris Conference and the Future of the Kurds

11.08.2025 - Lausanne

Since July 2025, the Paris talks, led by France and the United States, have focused on the future of Syria, particularly the status of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

The talks planned to take place in Paris in August between the Syrian Interim Government and SDF representatives were rejected by the Damascus government following Turkey's intervention.

The current Kurdish administration in the region known to the public as 'Rojava' is a manifestation of the historical, geographical and legal existence of the Kurdish nation.

As was the case with the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne, excluding the Kurds from international negotiations will deepen historical injustices.

Despite the pressure and impositions of all relevant actors, particularly Turkey, the Kurdish nation's legitimate right to self-determination must be recognized.

As the Lausanne Kurdish Institute, which focuses on the Kurds' right to self-determination, we emphasise that the Kurdish people cannot be excluded from history once again.

In this context, we invite all relevant parties to take responsibility for finding a fair, inclusive and internationally legal solution that secures the political status of the Kurdish nation.
